Dame Fiona is one of the UK’s most respected leaders in conservation, public service, and education. She is an advocate for ‘outdoor’ childhoods, for sustainable practices and for social mobility in rural areas. She was particularly interested by some of our ongoing projects to develop our outdoor area spaces.
Dame Fiona has an impressive CV. She is currently Chair of the National Audit Office, the Governing Council of the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, the Cathedrals Fabric Commission for England, and Cambridge University’s Botanic Garden. She was previously Director-General of the National Trust. She is Patron of New Brewery Arts in Cirencester, President of the Cirencester History Festival, President of the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and a Vice-President of CPRE nationally and its Gloucestershire Branch. She is also a local resident and former Deer Park parent as all three of her children attended the school.
As part of a visit to one of our school’s, Deer Park Secondary School, Dame Fiona was interested to see how community and citizenship values are being embodied on a daily basis. Headteacher of Deer Park School, Ms Messinger, Claire Graham (CEO) and one of Deer Park’s Head Students, Natasha, were pleased to show her around the school. She was inspired by the staff and most importantly, the students she met.
Following the visit to Deer Park School, Dame Fiona was delighted to meet Corinium Education Trust’s executive Team and Chair of the Trust Board.
